On the proper language of love

T S Eliot, in his essay The three voices of poetry:

… my opinion is, that a good love poem, though it may be addressed to one person, is always meant to be overheard by other people. Surely, the proper language of love — that is, of communication to the beloved and no one else — is prose.

May be it is a cultural thing; but, I do have difficulty in accepting this stand, though.
