Sunday late night sciency links!

By Guru
  1. Daniel at Cosmic Variance explains a very delicate gravity experiment, the results of which will be known by December this year; the experiment to measure the Lense-Thirring precession (apparently, of the order of 40 milli-arcseconds per year), and, according to Daniel, is one of the most technically ambitious projects ever launched into space. Take a look!
  2. Two mathematicians have analysed a toy (called Thalaiyatti bommai in Tamil–a toy that nods its head), and came up with the more generalised notions of self-righting objects (and, apparently, Indian star turtles carry one such object on their backs); via Seed.
  3. Chad Orzel at Uncertain principles explains Ohm’s law by looking at the microscopic behaviour of electrons in a solid and their response to an externally applied field.
  4. Andre at Biocurious gives links to Larry Moran’s articles on the mechanisms behind blood clotting (and also indicates the importance of such mini-tutorials in science popularization).

Have fun!
